Finger Lakes Railway



The Finger Lakes Railway (FGLK) operates a web-like arrangement of trackage focused in Geneva, NY. They are owned The lines were purchased from Conrail in 1995 as "The Geneva Cluster". Conrail retained the Corning Secondary between Lyons and Corning, NY in order to facilitate coal trains bound for NYSEG at Dresden, NY and any detour traffic if necessary.

The FGLK's lines are as follows, all in the state of New York:

The FGLK interchanges with CSX Transportation in Lyons and Solvay; and with Norfolk southern at Himrod Junction. They are the sole interchange & intermediate carrier for short line Ontario Central at Shortsville, NY as well. Norfolk Southern still owns the Corning Secondary between Geneva and Corning. Other than the AES (former NYSEG) coal-fired powerplant at Dresden, NY, FGLK handles all local business north of Himrod Junction.

They have a variety of assignments which work a variety of customers located in the greater Finger Lakes region of central New York state. Guardian Glass has a large facility in Geneva, and Solvay Paperboard (in get this, Solvay) has a dedicated daily switch crew. A weekday crew works out of Himrod, serving industries in Watkins Glen & Penn Yan as well. And a daylight switch crew works the Geneva area.
